How to pay less for your hotel
The same hotel can cost twice as much depending on the week, the site and when you book. Here are the levers that actually bring the price down.
1. Play with the week, not just the month
Within a single month, a night's price swings a lot from one week to the next (school holidays, public holidays, events). Shifting your stay by a week can save 20–40%. That's exactly what we automate: we test every week of the month and keep the cheapest.
2. Compare the same hotel across sites
The same hotel, same dates, isn't the same price everywhere. Gaps between Booking, Expedia, Hotels.com and aggregators are common. Always compare before booking — one click can be worth tens of euros.
3. Turn on member rates
Most platforms show a lower price once you're signed in (Genius on Booking, for instance). It's free and often 10% off or more. Always check the signed-in vs signed-out price.
4. Look at free cancellation
A slightly pricier refundable rate can be smarter than a non-refundable one: if the price drops before your stay, book the new one and cancel the old. You lock a price without committing.
5. Avoid hidden extras
City tax, breakfast, parking, resort fee: the headline price isn't always the final one. Compare the all-in price rather than the teaser rate.
6. Book at the right time
Not too early, not too late. For a touristy destination in high season, booking 1–3 months ahead is often the sweet spot. Off-season, last-minute deals can be unbeatable.
